In East Texas, it is normal for the seller to pay for the cost of title insurance in approximately 97% of all transactions. To determine the cost of your insurance (approx):
For policies (sales price) of $100,001 to $1,000,000:
- Subtract $100,000 from the policy (sales Price) amount.
- Multiply result by $.00534
- Add $843 to the result
Thus for a $500,000 sales price: subtract $100,000. The result of $400,000 is multiplied by $.00534 = $2,136. $2,136 plus $843 = $2,979 is the cost of the title insurance.
For policies (sales price) of $1,000,001 to $5,000,000:
- Subtract $1,000,000 from the policy (sales price) amount.
- Multiply result by $.00439
- Add 5,649 to the result.
Thus for a $3,000,000 sales price: subtract $1,000,000. The result of $2,000,000 is multiplied by $.00439 = $8,780. $8,780 plus $5,649 = $14,429 is the cost of the title insurance.
