Thinking wisely when the Rice Institute was to be built, the designers and engineers who broke ground on the campus at 6100 Main St. incorporated underground tunnels to provide a variety of facility services to what became Rice University’s 300-acre campus.
Today, 100 years later, the tunnels span 2.5 miles and serve 50 buildings.
